Moore tempts indie 'Fate' with McAvoy

By Tatiana Siegel

Mandy Moore and James McAvoy are in final negotiations to star in the indie dramatic thriller "Twist of Fate," to be produced and financed by Foresight Unlimited.

Penned by Wendy Riss, the story centers on Chrissie (Moore), a working-class girl in love with moody and intense Joe (McAvoy). Their lives irreparably change after a car accident kills the fiancee of a local young socialite, a crime that they do not report.

The film will be directed by Jennifer Elster ("Particles of Truth"). Foresight topper and "Monster" producer Mark Damon is producing in association with Alessandro Camon, Alexandra Milchan and Moshe Diamant. Ed Pressman is executive producing.

With production scheduled to begin in May, the project will be presented to foreign distributors during the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival and Market.

"What I hope to achieve is something on the level of 'Monster,' " Damon said. "There's always the question of how to reach audiences. But with Jennifer, I see a young Patty Jenkins (who helmed 'Monster'). I think the film will have a resonance with youth."

Damon added the Elster, who comes from a photography and music video background, is best suited to interpret Riss' "envelope-pushing" script.

Moore, whose credits include "A Walk to Remember" and "Chasing Liberty," next will be seen opposite Hugh Grant in the satire "American Dreamz." McAvoy, who recently appeared in "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe," stars opposite Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming comedic fantasy "Penelope."

Founded last year by Damon, Foresight is in postproduction on "Beyond Friendship" and the noir thriller "Captivity," directed by Roland Joffe.
